The Book of Oprah: A Collection of Wisdom Folly
“Jesus, came to show us Christ-consciousness…Jesus came to show us the way of the heart…Jesus came to say, ‘Look I’m going to live in the body, in the human body and I’m going to show you how it’s done.’ These are some principles and some laws that you can use to live by to know that way. I don’t believe that Jesus came to start Christianity.”
“What Jesus said is much deeper than what you, how the church interprets it. There’s a depth to it. And it reflects your own depth when you read it. So there’s no conflict between this teaching, which is purely spiritual, and any religion.”
“The old way is the hierarchy has the authority. Church authorities tell you how to worship in church and how to behave outside of church. The new spirituality is that you are your own best authority as you work to know and love yourself, you discover how to live a more spiritual life.”
“Do not make the pathetic error of clinging to the Old Rugged Cross. The only message of the crucifixion is that you can overcome the cross.”
“There is no sin.”
“My mind is part of God’s, I am very holy, my holiness is my salvation and my salvation comes from me.”
“The journey to the cross should be the last ‘useless journey’.”
“The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol… It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray.”
“The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation.”
Some of these quotes are Oprah’s, some are from the course she teaches called “A Course in Miracles.” And this is coming from a woman who clearly mislabels herself as a Christian. I don’t even know where to begin. I would say to meditate on this and see where you would begin, but obviously this is garbage that nobody should meditate on.
Oh yeah, I was going to start out with the quote on how Jesus is so much deeper than the Church’s interpretation of him. I suppose her ‘do-whatever-you-want-jesus-is-just-a-symbol’ philosophy is so much more powerful and deep than Jesus shedding his blood because he has loved you from the beginning of time. Her philosophy of separating Christ from the rugged cross, the height of his role in our salvation is so deep. Wait, that plays no role in our salvation because we make our own salvation. This is ridiculous and Christians seriously need to give her up. And I’m serious. We may think that its no big deal to watch her or take some advice from her as long as we know what we believe. But should we really dabble in it?
I don’t want to sound like a crazy fundamentalist, but there is a war going on for your soul. You are valuable!!! Satan would do anything to get your soul, so that you would be damned eternally just as he is. He would even use Oprah!!! She is famous, she has a huge influence on people. She has a strong Christian background, and claims to be a Christian. It would be so easy to a Christian to follow her, to slowly believe her morsels of folly and abandon the gospel. And believe you me, the gospel is clear that not all who say “Lord, Lord” are counted among those Jesus knew. Contrary to what Oprah teaches, Christ is the only way to salvation, and if we do abandon him, we will not be saved.
Do yourself a favor: be pathetic and cling to that old rugged cross. The blood that stained that cross is what purchased your eternal life, is what brings you purpose, is what will fulfill your happiness, is what is made present on every alter of every Catholic Church. Cling to that, cling to Jesus, a real man, not just a symbol, God made in the flesh, outside of whom “no one comes to the Father.” Yeah, cling to that.
